Today on January 10, 2002 I walked into the Ingham County court house and registered Automated Software Technology. I was just laid off from my job and there was a deep recession going on. I had no customers, no leads, and didn't really know what I was going to do. I was really interested in LabVIEW and I thought there were other companies out there who would need some code written. So, with nothing to lose I jumped in...
Twenty years later I have had the opportunity to do things I could have never imagined 20 years ago. I have become a Certified LabVIEW Architect, a LabVIEW Champion, and a Professional Engineer. I have become a member of the NI partner program, taught LabVIEW classes, ran 2 LabVIEW user groups, and presented at NI week. I have worked on some really amazing projects and met incredible people.
I have seen 4 presidents, got married, had 2 wonderful daughters, and survived 2 recessions and 1 pandemic. I still really enjoy developing test systems and I hope to keep on doing it for years to come.
Thanks to all my customers who have made this possible. I also want to thank Jim Tappel who gave me my first opportunity with LabVIEW. Thanks to Western Michigan University for a great education and the exposure to instrumentation and LabVIEW. I would like to thank Al McGilvra for giving me the idea and encouraging me to start my own business. I would also like to thank Manny Teran, Becky Linton, and Russ Greenwood for encouraging me to become an NI Partner.
I especially want to thank my wife Jen for standing by me while I was working long hours and hoping for the phone to ring.
It has been a wonderful ride.
